物件の表題 Title of Discovery: Three-layered Thomasson?
物件の状況(形質・その他) Condition of Instance (notable traits, context, etc.): Here’s a complicated one for you.
It’s now a regular-looking deli, so the pictures will have to suffice.
Picture (1) is a long shot. Sorry it’s not the best photo. I took it with my phone.
As you can see, we have a classic “pure” staircase Thomasson, here. It leads up toward a doorway, but this doorway has been covered with plywood. And because this is Soho, the plywood has been thoughtfully decorated with wallpaper. See down at the bottom of the door, where the wallpaper doesn’t quite match up? Embarrassing, right? Everyone in Soho shudders when they walk by this door because the misaligned wallpaper. It’s an affront to their superior aesthetic sensibilities.
But anyway: You have a useless staircase, and you also have a useless door. But look at Pictures (2) and (3). See how carefully the plywood has been cut, to allow for the hinges? The one on the bottom is the best. That took some real craftsmanship, right there. A jigsaw, at least.
But, so, we’re left with a staircase that leads to nowhere, a door that doesn’t open, and wallpapered plywood that has been carefully cut to allow for the hinges of the door that doesn’t actually open.
A rare case of three-tiered Thomassonness? Right here in New York City?
I guess that’s for you guys to decide.
